About the track

“‘Na Sacola’ is a delicate song full of lyricism,” says Mauricio Tagliari, partner, founder and A&R of YB Music. “It also brings an inner strength that reminds me of some great Japanese movies. In my opinion, Rodrigo Campos is one of the biggest names in contemporary Brazilian music. The sonority of his work–between tradition and eccentricity–is very original. The lyrics of his songs deal with daily life in Brazil today.”

About YB Music

YB Music (São Paulo) was founded back in 1999. The label features sounds from all regions in Brazil, ranging from samba to jazz, and from rock to electronic music. “We are a panel of alternative music without prejudice”, says founder and partner Mauricio Tagliari. “There is a sense of resistance in all music we release.” Covering the full spectrum of music the country has to offer–with a catalog spanning over 100.000 tracks–makes YB Music an in-demand label for listeners interested in Brazilian music.

Witnessing the end of the CD era and the rise of illegal MP3s, the label shifted its focus towards syncing in movies and commercials in the early 2000s. “I studied cinema besides music. It has always been fascinating to me to connect sound and image,” says Tagliari.

“With that being said, I also like the idea of samples being used to create new sounds. But I've always been worried about respect for the original creator. Tracklib brings a clever way to deal with it. We had numerous problems with legalizing tracks that contained samples. It's always a concern. Having the possibility of accessing legalized samples and respecting the creator, just like with this beat battle, is great.”

About the judge

Producer Prince Paul is the judge for this month's Beat Battle. As a seasoned digger and a sample library on feet, he's the perfect producer to judge this round of beats. Matter of fact, one of his trips to São Paulo over ten years ago even led him to start music collective BROOKZILL! (“Brooklyn meets Brazil”), fusing Brazilian samples and musical influences with beats and rhymes. So his love for Brazilian music goes deep. But hey – no pressure.

Rules

Your Instagram profile needs to be public for us to be able to see your post. Only entries using the #tracklibbeatbattle tag with at least two friends are tagged, will be entering the competition.

Your music is still yours. We do not own any of the entries to this competition and will not use them for any other advertising purposes. We will, however, repost your tracks to promote the competition itself.

The first prize will be awarded a full sample license to monetize their work for free. The winner will, however, still have to pay the original rightsholders their share (5, 10 or 20% depending on sample time) of any eventual revenue earned on the new song.

No purchase is necessary to participate, but the samples need to be downloaded using a personal account on Tracklib. The prize is as stated and no cash or other alternatives will be offered. The prizes are not transferable and will be added to the winners Tracklib account.

If you have any further questions about the rules of this competition - just ask us at support@tracklib.com.

When sampling from Tracklib a single sample license is valid for all available tracks of a song. The total sample time is counted using the master track as a reference, so if you sample the same five seconds from all separate tracks it's still only five seconds total sample time.
