Getting Ready

A study in music business and live production eventually led Dan Ready to produce his own music using Ableton. In 2016, he started Ready Music to give name to his mix of funk, rock, hip-hop, and electronic music.

Dan Ready grew up on different styles of music. Born and raised in Louisiana, he was surrounded by rap, classic rock, jazz, blues, funk, and the local style of zydeco. “So the mixing of genres kind of just happened naturally from working with different local musicians,” Dan recalls. “But funk as a genre has always been special to me. I saw Parliament-Funkadelic when I was 18, and it sort of changed the way I thought about music and emotion. I didn't know a group of people could bring such positive energy and take the audience on a wild ride! I’d say them and Louisiana band The Meters are my biggest influences in regards to bringing different genres into funk.”

Dan Ready’s 2018 album, Orange Juice, is one of the results of that: an instrumental funk album with inspiration from hip-hop and rock. Partly with himself on drums, guitar, bass, and keys, and partly with samples. Not only as a way of producing, but also to learn how to produce. Dan: “I love sampling. It's really how I learned the workflow of music production. When I’m writing new music, I almost always dig into one of my own multitracks to sample. Nowadays, I sample parts of my old songs to have a starting point to the drums or groove and feel. Even if it's not going to be in the final version, It's a great way to move fast and stay in the moment while creating.”

"It’s never been so easy to clear a sample. Tracklib allows producers to be precise and creative."

That workflow led Dan to offer his entire catalog on Tracklib for fellow producers and musicians. On top of that, using the site even made him confident to sample other people’s music again. “Because of the legality, I quit sampling a few years ago,” he says. “It wasn't until Tracklib came along that I felt comfortable knowing I can sample music again with no issues! It’s never been so easy to clear a sample. It allows producers to be precise and creative."
