Tracklib Roundup 2019

2019 has been an amazing year for Tracklib with countless crazy good sampleflips! Here are five of the biggest songs made with (and cleared through) Tracklib last year.

By

J. Cole - MIDDLE CHILD

J. Cole kicked off the year with now Grammy-nominated hit 'MIDDLE CHILD', taking on the role of "little bro and big bro all at once" with some of the best bars of the year. The 4x Platinum track was produced by T-Minus and J. Cole, who added a pinch of ‘Philly Soul’ brass to the beat with a sample from Tracklib. Read the full story about the song here.

DJ Khaled - Holy Mountain (ft. Buju Banton, Sizzla, Mavado, 070 Shake)

DJ Khaled’s album Father of Asahd was one of this year’s most hyped albums. The opening track 'Holy Mountain' used a sample from 10-year old reggae prodigy Billy Boyo. “I was intentionally searching for a rare sample that was influenced by my Jamaican culture,” explains Major Seven who produced the track together with Khaled. BROCKHAMPTON - Dearly Departed

Shortly after the release of BROCKHAMPTON’s new album Ginger, the track 'Dearly Departed' made waves with its controversial topic. Kevin Abstract, Matt Champion and Dom McLennon share how they feel about parting with former group member and childhood friend Ameer Vann. The backdrop for this blatantly honest track is a sample of 'Barefoot' Swedish platinum-awarded producer Jimmy Ledrac. Read the full story about the song here.

Young M.A - No Love

New York rapper Young M.A's long awaited debut album Herstory in the Making dropped in late September this year. Her go-to beatmaker U-Dub produced one third of the album, using tracklib samples on two of the tracks. On the critically acclaimed track 'No Love' U-Dub sampled Karen Domino White, the daughter of iconic pianist and singer Fats Domino. U-Dub: “When I heard the Karen Domino White intro I knew I had no choice but to try to make a beat out of this song.". Read the full story about the songs here.

Mary J. Blige - Know

'Know' by musical powerhouse Mary J. Blige was her first new solo track in over two years. The empowering song is produced by Top Dawg’s Sounwave, who's sample of 'Reflections' by Detroit singer Albert Jones laid the groundwork for the thumping beat. Read the full story about the song here.
