Tracklib Roundup April

Slavic Soul, 70s blues, African music, and 'Computer Love'. Five of our favorite tracks using samples dug up and licensed through Tracklib.

Jamie Jones & Alan Fitzpatrick - Sundancing

UK house/techno producer and Hot Creations label boss Jamie Jones collaborated with techno titan Alan Fitzpatrick on a 12” record. ‘Sundancing’ is the B-side to the heavier acid-tinged ‘Fairytale Frequency.’ The track samples an African track from 1985, adding a fresh hook to their hard bass and drum patterns.

Christon Gray - See You Soon (ft. Matthew Tuck & Paige + Jer)

Fresh from an interview in our Made With Tracklib section: an uplifting and encouraging track by Ohio-based singer Christon Gray. According to PH4NTOM, the beatmaker behind the production, it was a matter of seconds before he knew he had to sample the guitars from “This Epic Life” by UK composer Dean Wagg.

NugLife - Hold Tight (ft. Blu & MED)

L.A. beatmaker NugLife blazed into 4/20 by dropping his official debut album, the aptly-titled NUGLIFE 2020. A total of seven tracks were made with Tracklib. And an all-star list of guests (Blu, MED, Planet Asia, The Underachievers & others) made it even harder to pick just one for this month’s Roundup. But we can’t go wrong with “Hold Tight” featuring Blu & MED, which samples a 70s blues track by Fenton Robinson.

Anamelia - Cake

‘Slavic soul’ singer Anamelia based in the UK traced back to her roots with the sample she used for “Cake.” Sainkho Namtchylak is an experimental singer from the Slavic region. Producer G-Bake puts a loop of her song “Naked Spirit” on top of a rattling drum pattern with thumping bass.

Skinny B - Let Me Just Turn Up

Portugese/Austrian rapper Skinny B samples a 2-bar loop by London-based synth-duo Komputer for his “Let Me Just Turn Up” track. He previously shared the stage with another Austrian rapper/singer: Mavi Phoenix, who also happened to be featured on Tracklib on the beginning of the month.
