João Negrão

João Negrão is a Brazilian composer and arranger who, in 1964, created the soundtrack for the film “Asfalto Selvagem”, directed by J.B. Tanko and based on the work of Nelson Rodrigues. This soundtrack, considered one of the rarest in Brazil, was reissued worldwide for the first time on vinyl and digital formats by Mad About Records.

The album features a unique fusion of jazz, bossa nova, and cinematic influences, evoking comparisons to composers such as Les Baxter, Ennio Morricone, and Armando Trovajoli. The soundtrack is structured with short, danceable themes like "Chá-Chá-Chá Prá Dois," as well as more dramatic pieces like "Tema 4" and "Suicídio," which explore the film’s tension and emotion.
