Sample Psych, Funk & Jazz by Library Music Master Janko Nilović

With his compositions in the late 60s and early 70s, French keyboardist, composer, and arranger Janko Nilović laid down the blueprint for a more funky, jazzy, and groovy take on library music. His sound on records like 'Psyc Impressions' and 'Un Couple Dans La Ville' was later adopted by many—and heavily sampled by producers including Dr. Dre, The Alchemist, No I.D., The Beatnuts, and DJ Babu.

"I am particularly proud of hip-hop producers sampling my work because my songs are dated. I like the rhythm and arrangement on my basic compositions. I don't understand the lyrics very well, but I generally appreciate the whole job."

—Janko Nilovic on being sampling (Passionweiss, 2014)

"Library music may be serious, but I define it as an alimentary music. (...) Library records at the time were too basic; too industrial. I came up with a new conception and ideas based on classical, funk, groove, jazzy, etc."

—Janko Nilovic (Passionweiss, 2014)
