Jesús Gómez y Su Grupo

Jesús Gómez y Su Grupo

Jesús Gómez y su grupo was a Venezuelan ensemble active during the late 1960s, led by bandleader Jesús Gómez and rooted in the country’s vibrant tropical music scene. Emerging at a time of intense exchange between Caribbean, Afro-Cuban and Latin American styles, the group developed an energetic sound combining salsa, boogaloo, cumbia and tropical soul.

Their recordings capture the raw spirit of Latin dance music of the period, driven by lively horns, prominent percussion and tightly arranged rhythms. Rather than relying on polished pop production, the group favored an organic ensemble sound in which groove, rhythmic interplay and dancefloor energy remained at the center.

Today, Jesús Gómez y su grupo are appreciated as part of Venezuela’s rich late-1960s tropical underground. Their music documents a fertile period when local musicians were absorbing new influences and experimenting with contemporary Latin sounds while remaining firmly connected to traditional dance rhythms, highlighting Venezuela’s distinctive contribution to the wider explosion of Latin music during the era.
