Sample the Flute Sounds of 'Wandering Priests' in Japan

Katsuya Yokoyama was one of the greatest masters of the shakuhachi: a spiritual instrument used by wandering Buddhist priests, called "priests of emptiness and nothingness." The bamboo flute dates back to the 17th century Edo period, but Katsuya Yokoyama masterfully modernized it on this 1972 record with a touch of jazz and funk with heavy grooves throughout.
