AVCO Records

Label

AVCO Records

Recording arm of filmmakers Avco Embassy Pictures Corp., launched in 1969 as AVCO Embassy. The name was shortened to Avco in October, 1971.

Artists, producers, songwriters and A&R men Hugo Peretti and Luigi Creatore, better known as Hugo & Luigi were tapped by Avco Embassy Pictures President Joseph E. Levine as the label's Vice Presidents and CFOs upon startup in 1969. The label's biggest group was The Stylistics, who charted over a dozen hits. Van McCoy's "The Hustle" was Avco's last major chart hit. At the end of 1975, Avco Embassy Pictures decided to exit the record business, and the company was sold to Hugo & Luigi, who renamed it H & L Records at the start of 1976. Today, the Avco catalog is owned by Amherst Records.
