Hot Buttered Soul Recordings

Hot Buttered Soul was Isaac Hayes' boutique label while he was signed to ABC Records. Hayes came to ABC after the 1975 bankruptcy of Stax. The record label was named after Hayes' first hit album, 1969's Hot Buttered Soul. His first album on HBS was Chocolate Chip, a best selling R&B album chart hit. His later releases fared with less success, and in late 1977 Hayes left ABC for Polydor.

In addition to Isaac Hayes' own recordings (solo, leading the Isaac Hayes Movement and a duet album with Dionne Warwick), the only other artists to have released albums on HBS were The Masqueraders, a five-man group from Texas.

Just prior to his death, Concord Music Group reissued Hayes' HBS recordings on the revived Stax label.
