These are the soul and mid-2000s hip-hop samples on “Diet Coke,” the lead single to Pusha T’s forthcoming album. The beat was originally produced by 88-Keys in 2004 as an interlude for a beat-tape, ironically titled ‘The Makings of Crack Cocaine.’

Our new Sample Breakdown shows how 88-Keys chopped and sped up "Take the Time to Tell Her" by R&B singer and multi-instrumentalist Jerry Butler, who was a former member of The Impressions and long-time collaborator with Curtis Mayfield.

Jerry Butler's "Take The Time to Tell Her" was previously sampled by the likes of Apollo Brown, The Hitmen, Puff Daddy, Atmosphere's Ant, and The Architect. Tied in with a Fat Joe a capella, the 1974 soul song gets an entirely new meaning:
