Alfonso Noel Lovo

Alfonso Noel Lovo is a pioneering composer, guitarist and bandleader known for fusing Latin rock, jazz and folk traditions. A musical prodigy, he co-founded early Nicaraguan rock bands before surviving a dramatic 1971 plane hijacking in which he was shot multiple times. Recovering in New Orleans, he recorded his groundbreaking debut “Terremoto Richter 6:25 Managua” (1973), blending psychedelia, mazurka, blues and Afro-Caribbean rhythms. His unreleased 1976 album “La Gigantona” received international acclaim when it finally came out in 2012. Over decades, Lovo has performed worldwide, from US stages to Europe, while continuing to shape Latin jazz and rock with his innovative, socially conscious music.
