Asgard had begun as a 5-piece band called Osgoode from the San Francisco Bay Area in 1971, named for Osgoode Place, a tiny street in North Beach where the Blue Cheer offices were located. It had morphed into a 4-piece band by 1972, and renamed itself Asgard. It featured an electric violinist and vocalist (Gelon “Jake” Lau), a guitarist and vocalist (Bob Hardy), a bassist and patriarch of the group (Phil Robyn) and a drummer and vocalist (Steve Hall).
