Formed in 1970 in the Caracas neighborhood of Marín, Grupo Pan was the first band led by Venezuelan percussionist Carlos “Nené” Quintero, joined by his brother Jesús “Chú” Quintero and a line-up of talented musicians. Blending the rhythmic power of salsa with the raw energy of rock, the group created a distinctive sound that bridged two worlds often seen as rivals. Their sole album, “Pan”, stands as a milestone of Venezuelan rock. Featuring all-original compositions by Nené Quintero, the record combined brass arrangements, electric guitar and driving percussion, echoing the Latin rock innovations of Santana and El Chicano.
