William Penn And His Pals were a garage-psych band from the San Francisco Bay Area, active during the mid-1960s psychedelic boom. Originally formed in 1964 as The DiscCounts, they evolved into a fuzz-driven outfit featuring guitarist Mike Shapiro and, at various times, future Santana and Journey member Gregg Rolie and future Mickey Hart drummer Mickey Hart. Their cult 1966 single “Swami / Blow My Mind” became a favourite among garage rock collectors and was later featured on the legendary Pebbles compilations. Though short-lived, the band remains celebrated as a quintessential Bay Area garage-psych act of the 1960s.
