Yurai

Vocalist Yurai unveils her first solo album “88888888 (pronounced "Infinity”)”, a mesmerizing sonic journey crafted entirely from the layers of her own voice. As the title suggests, the album creates a sense of limitless space ̶ built solely through vocal harmony without the use of any instruments.
Her harmonies evoke the spirit of traditional folk music ̶ melodies and tonalities that defy Western notation and twelve-tone systems. This distinct sound stems from her cultural background: raised in rural Yamagata in northern Japan and shaped by formative years spent in New York City. The album subtly reflects both worlds ̶ with hints of jazz and Afro-inspired grooves, yet grounded in an earthy, deeply Japanese sensibility.
More than just a vocal experiment, 88888888 is a deeply expressive album that expands the possibilities of the human voice. Occasional sound effects and ambient textures were contributed by engineer Shinjiro Ikeda and Musilogue founder Ryota Nozaki, both key figures behind the labelʼs signature sound.
