MOIRA

Label

MOIRA

A short-lived but soulful imprint, Moira Records was a Detroit-based label active from 1968 to 1970. Founded by Ollie McLaughlin and named after one of his daughters, it was a sister label to Karen, Carla, and Ruth. McLaughlin’s productions were frequently backed by Motown’s legendary Funk Brothers, giving the label its signature blend of sophistication and soulful rhythm . Though brief in its run, Moira Records made a lasting mark on the city’s vibrant soul scene, releasing gems by The Fabulous Counts, Belita Woods, Jimmy “Soul” Clark, and The Firestones—each contributing to Detroit’s golden era of deep, heartfelt soul.
