After collaborating on and off for about ten years, Jim Jones and Maino are officially teaming up — forming the new group Lobby Boyz. The original member of The Diplomats/Dipset and Brooklyn star rapper Maino introduce Lobby Boyz as a "supergroup." One you can play a role in, as Tracklib exclusively offers a placement for an official release with the platinum rappers. Including a remote session to directly work with Capo and The K.O.B. themselves...

"We're looking for that fire — we're looking for that one dope producer..."

Submission rules & information

  • You need to sample one song or multitrack on Tracklib.
  • You can only sample one song for each submission. You can however sample multiple multitracks from the same song.
  • You can sample a maximum of 60 seconds from the song.
  • You need to download the song you will sample via Tracklib (yes, we will check).
  • You can not send in submissions that you have submitted to previous competitions.
  • You can submit however many submissions you'd like — as long as they all follow the rules. Every submission needs its individual social media post link — so you need to post multiple times to submit multiple times.
  • For your submission to be eligible, you are not allowed to release your submission in any way before the winners of this competition has been announced. To share or release your submission (after the winner has been announced) containing a sample from Tracklib, you need first to obtain a sample license from Tracklib.

Your original music is still yours. We do not own any of the submissions to this competition and will not use them for any other advertising purposes. We might, however, repost your submission(s) to promote the competition itself.

Sampling rules & information

  • You can use and sample any legally obtained royalty-free sounds next to the song or **multitrack **you will sample on Tracklib — but nothing else that needs to be cleared.
  • You can manipulate the song you will sample on Tracklib any way you want. Chop it up, find the perfect loop, reverse it, go crazy with FXs, or all combined. It's all up to you!
  • The song or multitrack you will sample on Tracklib needs to play an important part in your submission's production. This means, for example, that you can not just sample one snare-hit from a multitrack.

Prizing rules & information

  • The first prize winner will be awarded a sample license to monetize their work, with no need to pay the license fee. The winner (and Lobby Boyz) will, however, still have to share revenues from the new recording and the copyright in the new composition with the original rightsholders from any revenue earned on the new song. How much depends on your submission's total sampled time and the category of the recording sampled.
  • The prize is as stated. No cash or other alternatives will be offered.
  • The prizes are not transferable.

About Lobby Boyz (Jim Jones & Maino)

This recent teaser video introduced Jim Jones and Maino as Lobby Boyz. Busy in a hazy studio late at night, as part of a session to create seven tracks within six days. Backed by a song over an “I Got 5 On It” flip as their first outing.

Harlem-bred rapper Jim Jones is one of the founding members of The Diplomats (a.k.a. Dipset) alongside childhood friends Cam'ron and Freekey Zekey, who were later joined by Juelz Santana. He's also the co-CEO of Diplomat Records and a video director under his pseudonym of CAPO. After his debut album On My Way to Church in 2004 and Dipset's Diplomatic Immunity (1 and 2) on Koch Records, Jim Jones earned himself an executive A&R position at the Koch-founded eOne Music. So who knows where this placement gets your music heard... His own recent releases include The Fraud Department together with Brooklyn-based producer Harry Fraud, and the Heatmakerz-produced El Capo album featuring Fat JoeRick RossCam'ronDave EastCurren$y, among others.

Bedford-Stuyvesant rapper Maino (and Kitchen Talk podcast founder and co-host) set up his own Hustle Hard imprint back in 2003. Atlantic Records caught wind of the label in 2007 after a series of mixtapes, guest appearances, and a Universal deal that fell through. The Just Blaze-produced "All the Above" featuring T-Pain soon followed, which earned him his first Billboard Hot 100 position and platinum-selling single. Other collaborations include tracks with Swizz Beatz (most notably the “Million Bucks” single on his If Tomorrow Comes... debut album), T.I.JadakissRoscoe Dash, and a GTA IV soundtrack placement for "Getaway Driver." With new this year: the Lobby Boyz release—possibly featuring a beat by you.

Keep digging
