A Tribe Called Quest - Award Tour (Sample: Weldon Irvine)

ATCQ famously sampled “We Gettin’ Down” by jazz-funk keyboardist Weldon Irvine. On his “Freaky Rita” improvisation from 1994—released a year after Tribe’s Midnight Marauders — he plays a subtle little nod to "We Gettin' Down" off his sought-after record Spirit Man from 1975.

Souls of Mischief - 93 'Til Infinity (Sample: Billy Cobham)

Producer A-Plus beautifully sped up "Heather" off Billy Cobham's jazz fusion masterpiece, Crosswinds. Camouflaged with a break off Graham Central Station’s “The Jam,” turned the biggest hit by the Hieroglyphics affiliates into a timeless hip-hop classic.

J. Cole - Middle Child (Sample: First Choice)

“J. Cole and I found a loop on Tracklib. It was the initial inspiration for the record," says producer T-Minus about their Grammy-nominated production of “MIDDLE CHILD.” “The special thing about having individual multitracks is that you can take something that sounds one way in its original body of work, and completely flip it to a different vibe. (...) You can really change the progression of the music that way. It takes sampling to a new level."
