K.A.A.N. - Welcome (Prod. by Blev)

"I kept a bit of smooth movement and added some hi-hats and a snappy snare, with some subtly gliding 808s to add that punch."

—Blev

“Welcome” is the album opener of K.A.A.N.’s newest album, Long Time No See. The sample was aptly chosen by the L.A. emcee himself: the original is called “Welcome To The Party” by Department of Harry Warren, a project by L.A. producer Nick Page. K.A.A.N.: The track is also available as a Male Vox version, with Eddie Vedder-esque vocals.

“I found the sample, and initially tried to create something but was unable to. I then sent it to Blev, and he turned into something special.”—K.A.A.N.

“I knew the tempo we were going for needed to be fast-paced. [Long Time No See] is high-energy and this was supposed to be the intro to that. So I ended up transposing everything up, and chopped and reversed the piano at the beginning. I kept a bit of smooth movement and added some hi-hats and a snappy snare, with some subtly gliding 808s to add that punch. The slow vocal part of the sample was a perfect set-up for a surprising beat drop.”—Blev

Brian Bars Burns & Ollie Dodge - Bar Maniacs (ft. A-F-R-O & Harry Mack)

“I ended up using a large chunk of the intro and sprinkles of vocal chops from other parts of the song to form the overall vibe of the beat."

—Ollie Dodge

New Orleans emcee Brian Bars Burns and producer Ollie Dodge (who is also the founder of Beat Maker’s Boutique) invited seasoned lyricists A-F-R-O & Harry Mack to pay homage to the classic East Coast boom bap sound they all love deeply. Having fun with flows and wordplay. The track brilliantly chops up a soul cut by The Fabolous Waller Family, a five-piece family vocal group.

"The way I usually dig on Tracklib is to start with no search filters and arrange the list of tracks by 'What's new'. I usually treat the digging process as its own session, seldom actually making any beats while digging."

"I utilized Tracklib's loop feature to find and download all parts of the track I thought could be used. I then loaded them into Native Instruments Maschine. Once I had all the samples in Maschine, I started playing around, hitting different pads, trying to find sequences that sounded good to me. After an hour or two I finally had the sample chopped and sequenced how I liked it. With drums and a bassline programed. I ended up using a large chunk of the intro and sprinkles of vocal chops from other parts of the song to form the overall vibe of the beat."—Ollie Dodge

A-Trak & Ferreck Dawn - My Own Way

"I’m a big fan of soul and R&B, and it blends really well with dance music."

—Ferreck Dawn

As shared in another Tracklib feature, Dutch producer Ferreck Dawn and Fool’s Gold founder A-Trak were looking to create “a new anthem from vintage samples and timeless house energy.” A 70s soul sample by Band of Thieves was what they needed to uplift their second official collaboration, “My Own Way.”

“I was browsing the website searching for old Soul and R&B vibes, as that’s the type of samples I’m looking for all the time. I’m a big fan of soul and R&B, and it blends really well with dance music. So when I came across ‘Love Me Or Leave Me,’ I started working with that right away. The process actually went fairly quickly. I finished the basic idea and sent it to Alain. He nailed the breakdown and we were able to finish the track after sending it back and forth a few times.”—Ferreck Dawn
