This competition has officially ended and all further submissions will be disregarded. The winners will be announced here and on all our socials during May 2022.

Previously working with producers like Swizz BeatzTimbalandBeat ButchaAraabMuzik, and Mike & Keys, it’s safe to say that Dave East has got a great ear for beats... If you have what it takes to become part of that star-studded list of producers Dave East collaborated with, Tracklib gets you a flight ticket to New York for a studio session together with Dave East. The winner gets selected by Dave East himself of course.

“Tracklib gives you the opportunity to use samples that maybe you didn’t think you could use or find,” says Dave East. “Samples you maybe never found before. I think it’s a great database to explore your own visions and push your creativity to the next level.”

Time to explore that vision to the fullest. For that, the choice of song(s) to sample is up to you:

Want to dig into *Inspired-*collections of producers Dave East worked with before such as Timbaland or DJ Premier? Use a collection inspired by Illmatic by Nas, who signed Dave East to Mass Appeal Records in 2014? Or subtly hint to his acting career by sampling film scores? From unexpected breaks to classic loops: anything goes for this placement competition. The choice is yours. Head to our Tracks section and start digging.

“I’ve got an old soul. So I’m a big fan of older music. Motown, 80s R&B, 70s—all of that. (...) So when you hear it on an up-to-date beat, sampled, it brings a nostalgic feel to it.” —Dave East

Submission rules & information

  • You need to sample one song or multitrack on Tracklib.
  • You can only sample one song for each submission. You can however sample multiple multitracks from the same song.
  • You can sample a maximum of 60 seconds from the song.
  • You need to download the song you will sample via Tracklib (yes, we will check).
  • You can not send in submissions that you have submitted to previous competitions. Your submission should be tailor-made for Dave East.
  • You can submit however many submissions you'd like — as long as they all follow the rules. Every submission needs its individual social media post link — so you need to post multiple times to submit multiple times.
  • For your submission to be eligible, you are not allowed to release your submission in any way (including social media) before the winners of this competition have been announced.
  • To publicly share or release your submission (after the winner has been announced) containing a sample from Tracklib, you need first to obtain a sample license from Tracklib.

  • You can manipulate the song you will sample on Tracklib any way you want. Chop it up, find the perfect loop, reverse it, go crazy with FXs, or all combined. It's all up to you!
  • The song or multitrack you will sample on Tracklib needs to play an important part in your submission's production. This means, for example, that you can not just sample one snare-hit from a multitrack.

Prizing rules & information

  • The first prize winner will be awarded a sample license to monetize their work, with no need to pay the license fee. The winner will, however, still have to share revenues from the new recording and the copyright in the new composition with the original rightsholders from any revenue earned on the new song. How much depends on your submission's total sampled time and the category of the recording sampled.
  • The prize is as stated. No cash or other alternatives will be offered.
  • The prizes are non-transferable.
